I will be giving my mathematicians opportunities for success by providing them with varied math manipulatives that we can utilize all year. Manipulative aid students learning by allowing them to move from concrete experiences to abstract reasoning. They are able to gain a deeper understanding of mathematical ideas, and integrate and connect a verity of concepts in many ways. Furthermore, these manipulative s will help students hone their mathematical thinking skills in meaningful ways. I plan to have students utilize manipulatives in every lesson. Research has shown that with long-term use manipulatives students are able to make gains in verbalizing their mathematical thinking, discussing mathematical concepts, work collaboratively and take ownership of their learning experiences. Please help me make this a reality in my classroom to build my manipulative library.
