I teach at the oldest elementary school in the county. The school turned 50 last year. It is also a fairly small school. Resources are lacking in many areas. When I arrived at the school last year, my classroom had no hands-on activities or manipulatives. I honestly didn't know how I was going to teach math with nothing to work with. I made some things, purchased some things, and borrowed all I could so that my students had what they needed to learn. My students are very creative and enjoy working with manipulatives in the classroom. We just don't have that many. Currently they enjoying using their desks as dry erase boards. It works great, but I would like for them to actually have something portable. This would allow them to work in groups away from the desks.
