Do you remember a book that you read growing up that brought history to life? A book so engaging, well-written and interesting that it might have even inspired you to go visit that exact historical location? I believe the novel Blood on the River could be that inspirational book for my fifth grade students! I know it was for me. This is my plan for using the novel Blood on the River in my classroom- I plan on using this book as a novel study to expose students to historical fiction as a genre and, at the same time, teach them about the beginnings of our nation in Jamestown, 1607.
