I have been studying a teaching approach called "The Daily Five." It is an approach where students are given options of 5 stations to visit daily. While I am meeting with small groups, the other students will be visiting one of the following stations: read to self, read to someone, listen to reading, word work, and writing. The "Writing Cafe" is where the bistro tables will be used to draw students to want to write. I plan on adding a striped awning to the wall, fun pens, colored paper, journals and interesting writing prompts. Having a comfortable reading space is important to encourage students to engage in reading for a sustained amount of time in order to build stamina. The lights and small rugs will be used for a "read to self" station and the large rug will be used for "listen to reading" and "read to someone." By funding this project, you will be facilitating and fun and rich learning environment.
