My students will be developing ways to cope with their emotions, finding alternative ways to handle stress, anger, and sadness through painting, drawing, and other forms of art. They will be able to reduce anxiety and improve the feeling of calmness within as they express themselves with colors and shapes. Students in my classroom struggle with communicating their basic feelings due to traumatic life experiences, limited resources, and lack of support, so having the opportunity to communicate feelings through art will allow them to show how they feel in appropriate ways. The goal for the students will be to use the supplies to create representations of their feelings in the past, current and present situations as well as practice coping strategies to reduce stress. During our class sessions, students will have discussions, role play and model SEL topics. By donating to our project you will not only provide students with a creative voice, but you will be supporting them as they build their self esteem, self awareness and insight. Student can continue on their social and emotional journeys with a positive way to share their feelings and utilize coping skills. Additionally, students can continue to make progress towards their own personal goals as they express their feelings and thoughts in a productive way.
