There is a certain frustration whenever you want to be heard, but feel no one is listening. That is a frustration that follows us all through life, especially whenever we try to find our voice. We can be great, and we can prove it; again, though, we want our voices heard. The students will get to have the conch- although ideally with a better end result. They get to have the attention, their voice amplified and then they get to have it thrown, literally, to pick someone else they feel should be heard. That's empowering. They loved the idea. Giddy isn't a word I often use to describe my students, but when they reacted to the idea of the speaker that we tossed back and forth to each other, that reaction embodied "giddy". Then there is the printer. We are a science class, which is great, but it is also often more than just black and white (in the literal sense and the figurative). So whenever there are multiple layers of the earth, or the different colors we portray the cell to be, we often want to show the kids this. Then there are the kids that put their effort into their Google Docs or their Slides, so that their project actually has its colors, and was so much more than just a black and white and gray. They breathed colors into their work, and I want to validate the effort. When kids have their efforts appreciated, they know they should show more. Also, there are the notebooks. Sometimes, kids just can't afford it. So, it would be nice, for next year and maybe this year, to sneak them one. That is all, a voice, appreciation, and pride. How wonderful are those?
