Something I have always wanted for my classroom and extracurriculars is access to a program called Qlab. Qlab is the industry standard program for sound design. It is used internationally at every level of theatre, from educational theatre to Broadway. Qlab itself is free, but it is only supported on Apple products. This is why we need a Mac. It will be used in the classroom to allow my sound design students a chance to practice finding, mixing, and programming sound for a show. We will use Qlab during plays and musicals to run smooth, well-designed sound effects and music, making it easier for my actors to hear cues and react to sound effects. Most importantly, it will give my tech theatre students a chance to gain experience with a program that they will use in college and in professional settings.
