As next year will be my first year of teaching, I am requesting materials to help start strong as I work with my high school students to build reading, writing, and overall good "people" skills. I have requested a good number of young adult novels that I intend to use with my students for choice-reading with a goal of engaging my students into understanding (and maybe even loving) the appeal and importance of reading. However, to do that I will need books with characters that my students can relate to—which aren't always the classics, as much as we English teachers love them. Additionally, I have requested organization materials for my classroom that will help me stay focused on my students and their curriculum rather than how to organize my new classroom at the start of my first year of teaching.
