Our drumline students are very active in the community! You might have seen us at the Texans games, Sylvester Turner Park, community parades, and surrounding area events. More and more young people are experiencing hearing loss. As it turns out, percussionists tend to fail audiology exams. High frequency hearing loss in drummers is often the result of prolonged exposure over the course of rehearsals. There are plugs available that diminish noise by 20 decibels, maintaining the fidelity of the sound around you but softening it. If you think of your ear as a speaker, when you turn it up too loud, the sound is distorted. These earplugs will have a sound quality that is so good, they're used by professional and amateur musicians. The levels of speech and environmental sounds are even, clear, and natural that instruction will not be disrupted from a muffled sound.
