The use of headphones, highlighters and glue sticks is almost a daily activity in my classroom, especially in Reading & English Language Arts. Using the STAAR strategy workshop model in Reading & English Language Arts, students are active in their learning centers for guided practice, small group, and to individually record modeled strategies. The highlighters allows me to see exactly what strategies they are doing. The glue sticks provide an easy place for them to show and share their work on their daily journals. What becomes a problem is the fact that the headphones at my current school never seem to last. I am in desperate need of some updated and sturdy headphone sets that my students can freely use for their learning centers. Currently, my students need to continuously check for working headphones or share the minimal ones we have. Even though they are great about doing this, it is distracting for many of my students who have focusing issues and they also miss important instruction from either myself or other students. By having new and better headphones, students will be able to avoid all of these problems and focus on increasing their learning! There are countless of online applications that my students use on a daily basis so having a better set of headphones will definitely facilitate their learning. By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement. Students will be able to simply focus on the academic material at hand, and not whether their materials are going to work or not. Plus in this technology literate world, any interaction with updated technology will increase their literacy as well as their desire to learn and use the new technology!
