My science club has wanted to make an e-bike for a few years now but we've not been able to do so due to costs. With this equipment, we'll be able to create our pedal-assist electric tricycle. Our intention is to design and build a pedal-assisted electric trike capable of transporting multiple people and build it mostly from scrap parts (with the exception of the motor and battery) utilizing skills of engineering, mathematics, and welding. This team project will finally allow us to put real-life application of gearing and welding, which we've already learned in our math, physics, and shop classes, into a tangible device which will be not only give us enjoyment of successfully completing a long-desired project but it will also provide the community and school events by transporting multiple people. These students, grades 9-12, have opted not to take study hall during school. Instead, they meet as a club during the school day for the advancement of their personal science project of their choice. We have had a desire to create a larger-scale project and have opted for the development of this multi-seat, electric but pedal assisted tricycle utilizing a team approach with specific skill sets of its members.
