I am an occupational therapist working in both these new classrooms. Learning occurs when students are calm and regulated. My dream of an "aquarium" for each of the two classrooms, stocked with a variety of weighted water creatures to carry and a virtual ocean of Liquid Tile Mats to explore with hands and feet will provide a wonderful multi-sensory experience. Weighted items can be very calming and stuffed animals can be comforting. These weighted sea animals will be a relatable, calming addition to these classrooms. Each classroom would receive four weighted animals and one set of four Liquid Tile Mats. These items are not standard classroom learning items and are not funded by our school district. Helping me provide access to these meaningful sensory regulation items will go a long way in helping meet these students needs.
