I am requesting 60 nonfiction books for my new 5th grade classroom. I am so excited to provide enough books for each student to have a different copy each week. Each week, they will even be able to study a different person, place, or event from history! These nonfiction books will allow students to gain a deeper understanding of historical events and the diverse people who have shaped our world.
Benjamin Franklin said, "Either write things worth the reading, or do things worth the writing." The "Who Was?" and "The Story of..." collections are perfect nonfiction books for 5th graders to gain a basic understanding of historical people, events, and places. Students can use these books to research in Social Studies, write comprehensive essays in writing, and add to their reading of nonfiction texts in literature. Because these books can be used across the curriculum, they will be well-loved! Students will be able to recognize the influencers who helped form our country and bring about change throughout the years. They will know what it means to do things worth the writing!
