Currently in school settings, students are asked to be masked up and are highly encouraged to "give space" to one another to keep each other safe. Despite it all, our students have been resilient and strong as they learned to develop friendships and socialize despite their limitations. Young children need to learn to understand, read and talk about emotions. This has been a challenge since all students are masked up. Thus, as an educator, I feel that students should always have a space available to relax, reflect and comfort a friend in need during our outdoor play.
To facilitate their social emotional learning, I would like to kindly request a bench for our outdoor play area. Students need a space where they can talk to a buddy in need when they get into conflicts or problems with one another in the playground. This bench would be such a meaningful gift for our youngsters growing up during this COVID times. They will use this bench as a space to resolve conflicts and socialize with one another at the playground. This is the perfect space that students can use to be a "normal" kid again.
The soft pillows will be used in the classroom to create a cozy corner in the classroom. All students will benefit from the cozy corner when they are feeling overwhelmed with the current situations at home and at school. I would need some soft pillows to make the space more comforting and separate from the rest of the classroom space.
