There are many challenges when transitioning from elementary to middle school. One of those challenges is that the color, fun, and options get taken out of learning. When entering a middle school you often see rows of desks and chairs whereas in elementary school the rooms are filled with color and creativity. Eleven and 12 year olds are still creative, young, and high energy. Adjusting to the changes in middle school can create anxiety. Anxiety and energy are all stored in our bodies and need to be released. Allowing students to have options for getting the energy out of their bodies during class will help calm their nerves, minimize behavior issues, and bring a sense of familiarity as it looks like their elementary classrooms.
