Helping students to develop the skills necessary to become successful readers has always been an important part of my teaching. But also helping them develop an interest and love for reading will add to their success in their chosen careers and enrich their lives. This book carries a message that many young adults need to hear so they can face their challenges on the road to success with hope, determination and perseverance. What an opportunity to explore culture, geography and lessons for success through a story that has inspired so many to reach for higher goals! This book provides an opportunity for my students to explore an area unknown to them through the lens of the language they are studying. In our efforts to promote literacy and improve student's ability to read well, these books provide the opportunity through an engaging story of a young man realizing his dreams. The lessons that will be learned will address realizing their goals, even when things may not seem to go their way and keeping a positive view of challenges to keep them motivated. It will provide context for the vocabulary they will learn and opportunities to have meaningful and relevant conversations with their classmates in the Spanish language. This book provides an avenue for my students to acquire more vocabulary in a way that gets them excited to initiate and sustain conversation in the language.
