I've been a National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT) for 9 years, but this is my 18th year as an ESL Teacher. The initial certification I earned in 2012 will expire in 2022 if I do not complete the Maintenance of Certification (MOC) process. Becoming a NBCT has made a tremendous impact on my personal teaching practice, but it has also led me into the realm of teacher leadership, which impacts the students of my colleagues, as well. Since my original certification, I have earned an advanced degree and served as a candidate support provider for other candidates seeking NBC. I want to keep growing as an educator as I reflect on how my professional accomplishments since 2012 continue to impact the students I teach. Only 3% of the American teacher population have earned this certification. I want to maintain this credential and see what new goals this process has in store for me.
