The balance ball and chair bands will help to enhance the supportive, comfortable, and learning-rich environment I am striving for. Many special education students have difficulties with anxiety, sitting at a desk, focusing, and completing tasks. My students will be able to learn by feeling comfortable in the classroom environment, with alternative seating, sensory fidgets, incentives, and markers, paper, and crayons. By offering choices of alternative seating and sensory fidgets to my students they are able to feel at ease and less stressed to focus on the task at hand. If students are given a choice, it can have a positive effect on the student's work and overall demeanor in the classroom. Students will also feel less anxious in the general education setting by be prepared for class. Something as simple as not having a pencil can cause anxiety or complete "shut down".
