I have been watching the research on alternative seating for the past couple of years and the research is clear. Students sitting in hard chairs all day isn't the best teaching option we have. Unfortunately, because of the nature of mathematics, a lot of times, we have to be at the desks, writing. Providing alternative seating will allow students to get their wiggles out while still actively learning the mathematics. The bands allow them to bounce their legs easier. The cushions provide extra cushion and the bouncy balls replace the chairs. It is my intention to have these on the side as options for students to choose instead of traditional seating. Traditional seating will also be available.
