This project was created in order to build a classroom library around ancient civilizations. Not only will I need to build up my resources for a new classroom and grade level, but it is also the first year ancient civilizations will be taught in 5th grade. The books chosen will help bring the ancient history of Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, China, Greece, and Rome to life for my students. They will not only provide us with visuals and information, but transport us back in time to a completely different way of life. The best learning happens when all students are engaged in a high-interest activity. In addition to the books (which have many hands-on projects), I also listed the ancient game of Mancala. Mancala has been played in India and China for thousands of years. Students will learn this ancient game and hopefully share with their families all they have learned!
