My kids are passionate about reading books that they can personally relate to, and that they can also connect to other content we are learning in our classroom. They love talking about the books they are reading and reading books as a class. When new books are added to our classroom library, my students are eager to get their hands on them. Diverse books are a gateway to learning and experiencing a variety of perspectives in our world. As I continue to build my first classroom library, I have been looking critically at my texts. I want to make sure every child has the opportunity to... 1) read books they are interested in 2) read books that portray a wide variety of perspectives 3) read books that connect to what is going on in the real world My project includes high-quality mentor texts and chapter books at a variety of levels and interests. The list of resources and books has been assembled carefully over the course of this entire school year and includes the input of my students.
