I teach in a rural area near the border. For seven months, my first graders have been at home for remote learning. The district lent the students and teachers laptops as primary tools for teaching and learning. The challenges in terms of technology, internet connection, outdated programs, limited access and so on have been a serious concern that affected student learning. It is so unfair that my students at their very young age are placed in the difficult situation of not being able to acquire the best learning resources that they deserve. It is not their fault that their current family situations require some of them to stay learning remotely. As their teacher, I feel obliged to create the best learning environment with the latest technology using the MacBook Pro. It will eliminate all the issues from older computers. We will use the Apple MacBook Pro to bridge the gaps by exploring a GLAD Unit on Ocean Habitats. We will use it for students to have access on reading materials about the 5 oceans. We will also use it to do a virtual trip to the Aquarium, create picture file cards, observation chart, inquiry chart, cognitive content dictionary, graphic inputs, narrative inputs, mind maps, and process grid. We will also use it for the expert groups to accomplish their research on the 6 kingdoms of living things. My students will create a final writing output as evidence of their improved foundational skills and meeting their grade level standards.
