I am requesting these items to create a fun and memorable station for independent reading. We will have 80 minute classes next year. My class will consist of four 20 minute rotations that students will visit daily. One station will be dedicated to independent reading. The issue is, most students do not naturally love to read. This is where this project could make all of the difference. The chairs will be used as a way to incentivize reading. The turf flooring will be used as a mat to cushion from the tile, as well as a common meeting space for class discussions. The butcher paper will be used for students to create artwork of the novels they read and hang them on the wall. Simply put, if they are excited about the area, they will be excited about reading. My hope is that this fosters a love of reading throughout the school year and throughout the rest of their lives.
