I am a current 3rd grade teacher at Aurora Public Schools in Aurora, Colorado. During our read aloud time, we have dove into reading the Amulet series. Our classroom has been hooked from the beginning. We are consistently saddened once our read aloud time is over, jumping out of our seats wanting to know what will happen next, and find it hard to put the book down. I have been grateful for this series, as Amulet has reached each individual learner in our classroom with being a low socioeconomic community. With being remote half of the year, we have only been able to finish the first book of the series and are now reading the second book. After we finished our first book, we participated in a book talk with a variety of other books choices we could read next during our read aloud. Every individual student chose to read the second book of the Amulet series. We are hooked. As the end of the year is approaching, an idea crossed my mind. I believe it would be so beneficial and heart-warming to send my students off with their own individual book of the Amulet series. My thought was to purchase them the 3rd book of the series. With giving students the third book, I believe this will foster their engagement of reading this summer along with all of the benefits reading has for our social, physical, and emotional growth.
