The benefits of incorporating a computer lab in our already existing library will be threefold: 1. We will use developmentally appropriate technology to increase learning opportunities for children. For example, we will use technology to introduce children more directly to cultures and places outside their community, engage children in virtual field trips, to enhance STEM learning experiences, and help children gain skills that will support their long time learning experiences into adulthood. 2. We will use the computer lab to bridge the gap between school and home and strengthen the relationship between the families we serve and staff. While technology does not replace face-to-face communication, we can use the computer lab to remove barriers of distance and time constraints when conducting parent teacher conferences and home visits. The computer lab will also allow parents to actively engage in their child’s learning experiences. 3. Finally we will use the computer lab to support teachers' professional development. For example, teachers could use the computer lab to engage in training opportunities, furthering their education and completing certifications. Parents will also be able to utilize computers for job searching.
