The power of reading, especially in the context of real-life skills, cannot be underestimated. I want to provide opportunities for my students to receive high level texts that integrate all subjects into their reading. As students transition from early elementary to upper elementary the academic rigor and demands are heightened, especially in regards to reading instruction, science standards, and awareness to social studies topics. It can be challenging to find high-interest, age-appropriate texts that promote reading instruction and bridge the gap to integrate science and social studies content. The magazines requested provide rich, high-interest texts and promote higher-level comprehension skills. In addition, they provide articles at a wide-variety of reading levels and focused on diverse topics. Access to reading materials in our classroom will ensure that all students' individual needs are met.
