My students are always the first set of smiles that I see walking towards me and are always eager to get to school in the morning. They come in with the willingness to work hard and an enthusiasm for learning. School should not just be a place for my students to learn about academics, but to learn about themselves. I work in a school that has a high level of poverty. Eighty-five percent of the students in my school receive free or reduced-price breakfast or lunch. Most of my students come from a background of trauma and require not only academic support but social and emotional support throughout the day. My goal is to make their school experience meaningful and fun while also setting high expectations for all of my students. I want to prepare them for the next steps in their lives and also teach them that anything is possible if they set their mind to it and work hard!
