Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many of our students have been out of school intermittently for a week or more at a time beginning in March 2020. Many of these same students do not have access to many quality books at home. Students have lost significant time in-person with teachers resulting in some grade levels seeing over 75% of students reading below grade level. Please help our struggling readers feel proud to be reading chapter books like their peers, feel confident in their reading skills, and experience the love of reading! Many of the books we are hoping to order are chapter books that are at much lower reading levels than usual chapter books. We feel that adding more decodable (phonics patterned) books at low levels will help students practice and reinforce the skills we are teaching them. We would like to see students feel confident in their skills, while still taking the risk of a challenge. Providing an organized library and calming environment will help students keep a growth mindset when it comes to achieving their goals!
