My students enjoy concrete results of what they are trying to create. Seeing what they are doing simulated on a screen is good, but seeing a physical result that they can touch and interact with assists with their learning. Being able to see the relationship between input and output modules and being able to physically trace the path of information and power reinforces the concepts that we discuss regarding our design processes and system models. The act of creating a working design gives a sense of accomplishment that leads to a deeper investment in the content. The pride that a student has when they successfully make an LED glow after finally figuring out where your code was incorrect is amazing to see. Even my most reserved students have let out an audible "Yes!" after figuring out a connection and want to share their success with everyone. The best part is that afterwards, they want to share their knowledge and help their classmates who are struggling..
