Last year was weird! We worked on drawing skills during distance learning. We taught the classes how drawing simple designs can be therapeutic and calming. This year we want to apply the drawing techniques moving forward, and focus on SHAPE using as many mediums as possible! We want to create ceramics, large paper murals, and even shrinky dinks! We will be together on campus but there will be restrictions in our classrooms, prompting us to be more creative in our space. Some classes we are going to try teaching outside. Knowing how our students have been cooped up and sedentary, we want to use as many hands-on mediums as possible. We are also going to set up a sensory table and free choice area. This can be used when students feel a little overstimulated or too much pressure. We hope to provide a safe place for students, where everyone can feel confident. Our art studio will be open more for students to drop in during free time. They can get some more individual attention as well as have a quiet environment to help nurture some tranquility. Our school has a large number of students with IEP’s and we would also like to provide an environment where everyone feels successful at art.
