I decided that next year I wanted to be able to teach English and Language Arts with an environment conducive to students learning. 99% of my scholars are African American, but often times we're learning about material that isn't relative to my scholars. I wanted to bring in more African American themed books, where scholars can learn the same exact standards but using books, and materials created for us by us. I believe that by doing so, this helps to create a culturally competent and culturally relevant classroom environment. One where scholars have the exposure to both European and African Diaspora text.
