My students came into third grade after a year and a half of school affected by COVID. Because of this, I noticed that many of their reading levels were lower than I had anticipated when I had been collecting books for my classroom library. Because I am a first-year teacher, I don't have books that span multiple grade levels. The majority of my books are at a third-grade level. Because of this, many of my students struggle to find books that are on their reading level to read. With this project, students will be provided with books that may be written at a lower grade level, but that are not too boring or not an interesting topic for students. Many books that are written at lower than a third-grade reading level are not the kind of content that my struggling readers want to read. My goal with this project is to help put books into my classroom library so that students on every reading level can find books that suit them and their likes.
