Giving my students access to these supplies will give them the basics they need for success in the classroom. For fluency practice in both math and writing, (a staple in 3rd grade curriculum) students would benefit by using whiteboards to flash answers. When taking notes, creating anchor charts, and practicing math and writing skills, students will be using pencils, as well as colored pencils, to classify and organize their thoughts. Students need supplies to learn, but they also need organization to be able to treat these donated supplies with care. Our students do not have desks in our class, but small tables with no easy place to store supplies. When provided with these storage supplies, my students will have easier access to materials, but it will also help teach them how to be tidy, a needed review in the post-pandemic classroom. I find it critical that students have access to art supplies in my classroom, which the watercolor paints and paper will offer. The students in my class have creativity and artistic potential flowing out of them daily. They regularly show me the drawings and movies they create at home. If students are able to connect science, math, social studies, and literacy to the arts, it will encourage a love for learning that can last them their entire lives. And finally, I have requested two Teacher Pay Teachers gift cards so I can purchase supplemental curriculum that will boost my students' chances for success. This would include materials for Social Emotional learning, educational posters, word walls, as well as additional math and writing practice to ensure student engagement and success.
