Our classroom environments should be conducive to open collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking. With flexible seating options, students will continue to take ownership of their learning by choosing a seat that works for them. Giving students flexible seating options allows students who require movement while they work the opportunity to move in a safe way that is minimally distracting. I’ve noticed that it helps my students become more self-aware about what types of seating and environment help them learn best. Student learning needs are constantly changing and as teachers we must adapt to fit their needs. Students feel empowered by the opportunity to have choices.
