The goal of reading instruction is to develop lifelong learners who build knowledge through text. Unfortunately, a lot of my students in upper elementary are struggling readers who are not obtaining knowledge through their reading. This is primarily due to the lack of foundational instruction that is necessary for them to be successful in their reading. Research shows that a good reader is only developed by intentional and explicit instruction in the areas of phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. By donating to this project, you will be providing students with a quality, research-based reading intervention program that includes explicit phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension instruction. The Teachers Pay Teachers gift cards will go towards purchasing this teacher-created, research-based reading intervention program. Students will gain the necessary skills to become successful readers, and ultimately, lifelong learners.
