I am requesting headphones, two comfy seats and fidgets. Do you remember a time where you needed a place to feel safe or just a break while at school? There can be many reasons our students might need alone time to manage their feelings at school. Oftentimes, being in a group context is overwhelming to our students’ nervous system, especially given the length of time children spend at school. The practice of mindfulness is an SEL strategy proven to help with classroom management and behaviors. My students will use this zen corner as an award for good grades or if they need a space to feel safe in a time of need.
