As a new art teacher, my classroom is lacking fundamentals of a basic elementary room. Literacy has a major impact on how my students learn, especially in the art room. Grades k-2 start the day in art by listening to a book being read. Then we create our project around our book. Nothing beats a book being read aloud by their art teacher. My students are always very curious about the few books I do have in my room and could use more. Art books offer opportunities to relate to characters and have students reflect in their own learning. Many of the books I am requesting showcase social emotional learning through literacy.
