We are using a book to enable our English Language Learners (ELLs)from around the world to have opportunities to talk in a small group flexible seating configuration. further, since our students come from around the world, students learn about perspectives other than their own. Because the group is small, students who are ELLs are more willing to take risks in speaking and have opportunities to listen to others, including native speakers to increase their fluency in English. The book study we are using encourages students to spend time talking and listening before they read to enhance understanding. Talking before writing enables students to get over their fear of writing in English. Because the small tables are light -weight, students can move furniture into configurations to promote debates, conferencing, or quiet work time. I am requesting 6 small trapezoid tables to promote the talk read talk write method of developing language skills.
