There are many ways to teach social-emotional curriculum which allows students to recognize and process their feelings. I plan to approach this domain from three different areas. I would like would like to help the students develop a tangible way to identify their feelings. This will be done by first supplying them with a visual that labels different types of feelings. Next, they would move to a more elaborate visual by learning zones of regulation. Finally, students would create their own visual to describe their emotions. They would then use this daily to check in on their feelings at the start of every school day. Next, I would use various materials to teach lessons on growth mindset, conflict resolution, problem solving, perseverance, gratitude, empathy, and many more. These lessons will engage the students and will promote class discussions and self-reflection. Finally, I will hold weekly class meetings, also known as restorative circles. Students will have an opportunity to share their thoughts, ideas, and feelings with the class. It is my hope that these practices will allow all students to begin to heal emotionally after a difficult year.
