Many of my students are healing from a traumatic experience, whether it is abuse and neglect or food insecurity and homelessness. I work with them to understand their thoughts and manage their emotions, teaching them skills to be successful in their school environment. This gives the student opportunity for healing, growth, and development leading to a healthier mental being. My goal is to provide a safe space where students can recharge while practicing social-emotional skills. The space would have comfy furniture and soft lighting to provide a calming atmosphere. I will also have activities to address mental health and social skills. Snacks will be provided for the students to recharge before heading to class. This space will be a proactive social-emotional learning environment to help students refocus, reduce outbursts in the classroom, and build positive relationships.
