I teach in a Kindergarten Dual-Immersion classroom in Wisconsin. Our school has a high poverty rate and a high minority rate. This program is very new to the district. Half of my students are Native English Speakers and half are Native Spanish Speakers. We spend 90% of our day learning in Spanish, and 10% of our day in English. Each year, the students will be spending more of their time learning in English, until they reach 50% of their instruction in English and 50% in Spanish. My students are learning to be biliterate, bilingual, and bicultural.
