Student engagement increases with the use of picture books because they are visual, interesting, and accessible to students of all reading levels. Picture books can be used by teachers to model a skill, allow students to read and discuss in groups, or practice literacy skills independently. Students practice listening, fluency, and tracking story elements across the book. Although a love of reading is not a state standard, it is this teacher's goal to increase reading through high-interest stories and increase reading skills by providing engaging stories for my students. These picture books will help students this year and beyond the Coronavirus Pandemic by meeting students where they are academically, providing engaging educational materials, and teaching students life lessons about how to be a good person.
