When students feel safe and connected at school, they have better attendance, higher academic achievement and are more likely to graduate. The tactile and sensory experiences of gardening can help children self-regulate and destress. The supplies that we would like to purchase will go towards beautifying the courtyard. The shovels will help us get all of the gravel out of the area as well as dig holes for plants and the paint and sealer will make the planters have life again. Our goal, as the school counselors, is to create a safe and calming space to be utilized by students and staff. We want to make our existing courtyard into that kind of space. Funding this project will help us make this a reality.
