All of these materials will be used to develop individualized activities depending on the student's specific goals and needs. For example, one of my students is working toward improved walking speed in order to better keep pace with his peers. Research has demonstrated that functional power training is an effective way to improve this skill. Thus, adding weight via a weighted vest to various tasks such as stair climbing, or pushing/pulling a heavy load, with the speed training kit, will help my student develop the necessary strength to better keep pace with his friends. Another student is working toward improved functional balance to decrease her frequency of falls during gym and recess. The balance board and pad will be used to challenge her stability while she completes individualized therapeutic exercises.
