I work as a CSCT mental health therapist at Bench Elementary. We serve a caseload of 10-12 students per school year with increased social, emotional, behavioral, and sensory needs. With COVID cases reducing in Montana, and increased vaccinations, we are able to add back in comfort and sensory components into our classroom. Our students often experience over-stimulation and trauma reactions during the school day that socially isolate them, are distressing, and takes away learning time. By adding a comfortable play and relaxation space, we will be able to work more effectively with our students, teach them self regulation, help them gain coping skills, and maximize their time spent learning in the classroom. We would love to add a comfy rug and tactile pillows to our classroom to complete our sensory corner. Your support is so appreciated and so important to these especially vulnerable children.
