What better way to foster the love of reading than through an engaging, self-motivating, fluency building method? It has been documented that through repeated readings with Readers Theatre, struggling readers greatly increased their reading fluency, comprehension, word recognition automaticity and prosody and most importantly student motivation. Providing the selected developmentally appropriate reading theatre scripts for my first grade students and for our fellow teammates would not only build fluency and comprehension, but also provide opportunities for echo reading, choral reading, buddy reading, repeated readings, and help build their self-confidence and motivation in reading.
