Eighth grade is a big writing year for students. Since many students are not exactly enthused about writing, I try to find more modern and relevant pieces for them to practice with. Scholastic Scope magazine has so many opportunities for students to write about. There is always a passage based, argumentative essay opportunity each month plus other skills practice in grammar that they so desperately need. With budget cuts and a limited classroom allowance, the classroom funds are not available to purchase Scholastic Scope Magazine. This 30 magazine subscription (digital and print) will help more than just 30 students. Besides being available electronically for virtual learners, several classes will be able to use the magazines each class period (this will reach over 100 students). The possibilities are endless with such a simple set of magazines. By donating a classroom subscription of Scholastic Scope Magazines, you will be helping students become better writers which will carry over to their other academic achievements.
