I am a high school basketball coach who is trying to teach my athletes life long lessons as well as creating well rounded athletes. Everyday I have athletes come to practice hungry and not "fueled" for what they are about to endure. I want to provide a variety of healthy snacks like Cliff bars, Protein Shakes, and peanut butter crackers for students to purchase. I wanted to incorporate economics into their day since this is a lifelong lesson they will need to master. Students need to know the importance of buying and saving their “money” as well as the importance of fueling their bodies with food that will allow them to reach their full potential at practice. Buy providing snacks and drinks for my athletes to "purchase" this will allow them to learn about money and the importance of spending their money on needs rather than wants. They will earn fake money based on their work ethic, grades, coming to practice, and helping others. They have the option to spend their money on drinks and snacks to fuel their body for their athletics.
