These materials will provide a base of consumable supplies to couple with our crowd-sourced bulk recyclables in order to stock our first makerspace as part of our Library and STEAM program. Students will have the opportunity to engage in various components of STEAM education beyond that which is provided in the classroom.
You can be the glue that helps us stick together in our learning endeavors!
With the landscape of education continuing to prioritize English language arts and mathematics, science and social studies have taken a back seat and students are desperately missing opportunities to do hands-on work and step outside of traditional assessments.
Design thinking will be our primary focus and the goals below will serve as our guide:
We will provide all students the opportunity to build upon their knowledge, skills, and interests by dedicating a space in the library where students can create.
We will provide students an environment that promotes inquiry by providing up-to-date, relevant print and electronic materials.
Students will collaborate with core and encore teachers to co-teach information, literacy skills, and provide enrichment and extension lessons through Maker Sessions.
Students will move from a teacher-led model to a student-led model.
We are building a discovery zone, not just a library!
