Distance learning has been a challenge for most of my students. Despite the best efforts of their families, these students have struggled with many of the essentials needed to optimize a virtual learning experience. Levels of literacy in the class range from pre-literate, in both English and Spanish, to a 2nd grade proficiency in English reading. All need help with spoken English, writing, and grammatical conventions. With this in mind, I was immediately attracted to DK Publishing’s "English for Everyone: Level 1" and its accompanying workbook following the recommendation of our language and literacy specialist. "English for Everyone: Level 1" teaches foundational English skills in a systematic, colorful, and engaging manner. While our district has a wonderful English learning and literacy program, "English for Everyone" would add supplemental support that, I strongly suspect, will enhance and expedite the English learning process for our Newcomer Class students. Note: This text was designed as a self-study program. However, I will work through the lessons with the class, providing direct instruction.
